Medical Billing Guideline
Durable Medical Equipment
DME is any equipment that provides therapeutic benefits to a member because of certain medical conditions and/or illnesses that can withstand repeated use, is primarily and customarily used to serve a medical purpose, and is appropriate for use in the home. A sufficient knowledge of the guidelines ensures an error free claim submission, reducing rejection/denials issues.
The vast range of regulations, considering purchase and renting DME, along with sometimes, regional differences in Medicare coverage, amongst many more issues; have DME face many challenges with respect to reimbursement. Largely dependent on prescriptions from orthopedics and requiring claims to be submitted in a specific manner, DME follows a unique pattern of billing and coding. Offering solutions to such DME is our foremost duty and hence MBC is here with a comprehensive document listing the guidelines to be followed for billing DME claims. This will aid in minimizing the errors that take place.
